T Sport Bernau Climbs to P3 After Double Podium at Zolder

T Sport Bernau completed another positive weekend in the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship at Circuit Zolder, securing two second-place podium finishes and moving up to P3 in the overall championship standings.

A BUSY START TO OUR EUROPEAN TOUR

The week started early for the team, travelling from the UK to Belgium across Tuesday and Wednesday with everything loaded for a busy few weeks ahead.

With three race weekends remaining in the championship and our race truck also scheduled to be displayed at IAA Transportation in Hannover, careful planning and preparation were essential before leaving our UK workshop.

Once at Circuit Zolder, the team set up the paddock and built our hospitality area ready for the weekend. We were also delighted to welcome guests from VARTA Automotive, giving them the opportunity to experience the Goodyear FIA ETRC and see the team and race truck in action.

FRIDAY – FREE PRACTICE

Track action began on Friday with two Free Practice sessions, giving Antonio and the team valuable running time around the technical Zolder circuit.

The sessions allowed us to work through the setup and prepare the truck for Saturday's qualifying and first two races.

SATURDAY – FRONT ROW AND ANOTHER PODIUM

Saturday got off to a strong start with an extremely close qualifying session.

Antonio delivered when it mattered, setting the second-fastest time to secure P2 on the grid, ahead of Jochen Hahn and Sascha Lenz.

Race 1 was close throughout, with Antonio having to deal with plenty of pressure behind. He defended his position well and maintained a strong pace to bring the truck home in P2, securing our first podium of the Zolder weekend.

The reverse-grid format saw Antonio start Race 2 from P7.

It was an action-packed race from the beginning, and Antonio initially dropped back to P8. He continued to push and fight his way forward, eventually recovering to P6 at the chequered flag.

SUNDAY – WET WEATHER, TRICKY CONDITIONS AND ANOTHER P2

Sunday brought a completely different challenge, with heavy rain creating extremely wet and difficult track conditions at Circuit Zolder.

The team worked hard to find the optimum wet setup, and once again Antonio delivered in qualifying, posting the second-fastest lap time and securing P2 for Race 3.

Due to the amount of standing water on the circuit, both of Sunday's races began under yellow flags. Overtaking was not permitted during the opening laps, allowing the trucks to help clear some of the water from the racing line before racing could safely get underway.

Race 3 developed into a particularly challenging race as the conditions changed considerably. After starting on a very wet circuit, the track began to dry during the second half of the race, making grip levels and the racing line increasingly difficult to judge.

Antonio fought hard to maintain his position and once again delivered a strong result, crossing the line in P2 and securing our second podium of the weekend.

For the final race at Zolder, Antonio lined up in P7 on the reverse grid.

Once again, the race started under yellow flags due to the wet conditions and standing water, before the field was released to race when conditions had improved.

Shortly after the racing got underway, Antonio lost one position to Norbert Kiss, dropping back to P8. From there, he started fighting his way back through the field. On lap eight, he overtook José Rodrigues to regain P7, before closing the gap to René Reinert and making another move to take P6.

Antonio continued to push, chasing down Faas and completing another overtake to move into P5, where he finished the final race of the weekend.

It was a strong recovery drive and an important result to round off the weekend, adding more valuable points to our championship campaign.

UP TO P3 IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP

Zolder proved to be another important weekend for our championship campaign.

With two P2 podium finishes, together with valuable points from the reverse-grid races, we gained another position in the overall standings and leave Belgium P3 in the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship.

It was a strong team effort throughout a weekend that presented everything from incredibly close qualifying sessions to heavy rain and rapidly changing track conditions.

NEXT STOP: IAA HANNOVER

There is no break for the team just yet.

On Monday, we will pack down at Circuit Zolder and head directly to IAA Transportation in Hannover, where our race truck will be on display outside between Hall 26 and Hall 22.

After IAA, our focus will turn back to racing as we prepare for the penultimate round of the Goodyear FIA ETRC at Le Mans.

T Sport Bernau blickt auf ein weiteres erfolgreiches Wochenende in der Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship zurück. Auf dem Circuit Zolder sicherte sich das Team zwei zweite Plätze und verbesserte sich damit auf P3 in der Gesamtwertung.

EIN INTENSIVER START IN UNSERE EUROPA-TOUR

Die Woche begann für das Team bereits früh: Am Dienstag und Mittwoch reisten wir von Großbritannien nach Belgien – mit allem an Bord, was wir für die kommenden intensiven Wochen benötigen.

Mit noch drei ausstehenden Rennwochenenden in der Meisterschaft und der geplanten Präsentation unseres Renntrucks auf der IAA Transportation in Hannover waren eine sorgfältige Planung und Vorbereitung entscheidend, bevor wir unsere Werkstatt in Großbritannien verließen.

Am Circuit Zolder angekommen, baute das Team das Fahrerlager sowie unseren Hospitality-Bereich für das Rennwochenende auf. Besonders gefreut haben wir uns, Gäste von VARTA Automotive bei uns begrüßen zu dürfen. Sie hatten die Gelegenheit, die Goodyear FIA ETRC hautnah mitzuerleben und einen Blick hinter die Kulissen unseres Teams und Renntrucks zu werfen.

FREITAG – FREIES TRAINING

Die Action auf der Strecke begann am Freitag mit zwei freien Trainings, die Antonio und dem Team wertvolle Zeit auf dem technisch anspruchsvollen Circuit Zolder boten.

Die beiden Sessions nutzten wir, um am Setup zu arbeiten und den Truck bestmöglich auf das Qualifying und die ersten beiden Rennen am Samstag vorzubereiten.

SAMSTAG – STARTREIHE EINS UND EIN WEITERES PODIUM

Der Samstag begann mit einem äußerst knappen Qualifying vielversprechend.

Antonio lieferte im entscheidenden Moment ab und fuhr die zweitschnellste Zeit, die ihm P2 in der Startaufstellung sicherte – vor Jochen Hahn und Sascha Lenz.

Rennen 1 blieb von Anfang bis Ende eng. Antonio stand von hinten unter großem Druck, verteidigte seine Position jedoch stark und hielt ein konstant hohes Tempo. Am Ende brachte er den Truck auf P2 ins Ziel und sicherte uns damit das erste Podium des Zolder-Wochenendes.

Durch die umgekehrte Startaufstellung ging Antonio in Rennen 2 von P7 ins Rennen.

Von Beginn an ging es turbulent zu und Antonio fiel zunächst auf P8 zurück. Er kämpfte sich jedoch wieder nach vorne und überquerte die Ziellinie schließlich auf P6.

SONNTAG – REGEN, SCHWIERIGE BEDINGUNGEN UND EIN WEITERER ZWEITER PLATZ

Am Sonntag wartete eine völlig andere Herausforderung auf uns. Starker Regen sorgte auf dem Circuit Zolder für extrem nasse und schwierige Streckenbedingungen.

Das Team arbeitete intensiv daran, das optimale Setup für die nassen Bedingungen zu finden. Die Arbeit zahlte sich aus: Antonio lieferte erneut ein starkes Qualifying ab, fuhr die zweitschnellste Rundenzeit und sicherte sich P2 für Rennen 3.

Aufgrund der großen Mengen an stehendem Wasser auf der Strecke wurden beide Rennen am Sonntag zunächst unter gelber Flagge gestartet. In den ersten Runden galt Überholverbot, während die Trucks dabei halfen, Wasser von der Ideallinie zu verdrängen, bis die Bedingungen sicher genug waren, um das Rennen freizugeben.

Rennen 3 entwickelte sich zu einer besonderen Herausforderung, da sich die Bedingungen im Laufe des Rennens deutlich veränderten. Nachdem das Rennen auf einer sehr nassen Strecke gestartet war, begann der Asphalt in der zweiten Rennhälfte abzutrocknen. Dadurch wurden das Gripniveau und die richtige Linienwahl zunehmend schwieriger einzuschätzen.

Antonio kämpfte hart um seine Position und lieferte erneut ein starkes Ergebnis ab. Er überquerte die Ziellinie auf P2 und sicherte damit unser zweites Podium des Wochenendes.

Im letzten Rennen in Zolder startete Antonio aufgrund der umgekehrten Startaufstellung von P7.

Auch dieses Rennen begann wegen der nassen Strecke und des stehenden Wassers zunächst unter gelber Flagge. Erst als sich die Bedingungen verbessert hatten, wurde das Rennen freigegeben.

Kurz nach der Freigabe verlor Antonio zunächst eine Position an Norbert Kiss und fiel auf P8 zurück. Von da an begann seine Aufholjagd. In Runde acht überholte er José Rodrigues und eroberte P7 zurück. Anschließend schloss er die Lücke zu René Reinert und setzte sich mit einem weiteren Überholmanöver auf P6.

Doch damit war Antonios Aufholjagd noch nicht beendet. Er machte weiter Druck, schloss zu Faas auf und überholte auch ihn, womit er auf P5 vorfuhr. Auf dieser Position beendete er schließlich das letzte Rennen des Wochenendes.

Eine starke Aufholjagd und ein wichtiges Ergebnis zum Abschluss des Rennwochenendes, das uns weitere wertvolle Punkte für die Meisterschaft einbrachte.

AUF P3 IN DER MEISTERSCHAFT

Zolder war ein weiteres wichtiges Wochenende für unseren Kampf in der Meisterschaft.

Mit zwei zweiten Plätzen und weiteren wertvollen Punkten aus den beiden Reverse-Grid-Rennen konnten wir eine weitere Position in der Gesamtwertung gutmachen und verlassen Belgien auf P3 in der Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship.

Es war eine starke Teamleistung an einem Wochenende, das uns alles abverlangte – von extrem knappen Qualifyings bis hin zu starkem Regen und sich ständig verändernden Streckenbedingungen.

NÄCHSTER STOPP: IAA HANNOVER

Eine Pause gibt es für das Team allerdings noch nicht.

Am Montag bauen wir am Circuit Zolder ab und machen uns direkt auf den Weg zur IAA Transportation in Hannover, wo unser Renntruck im Außenbereich zwischen Halle 26 und Halle 22 ausgestellt wird.

Nach der IAA richtet sich unser Fokus wieder vollständig auf den Rennsport, wenn wir uns auf die vorletzte Runde der Goodyear FIA ETRC in Le Mans vorbereiten.
