Due to the ongoing restrictions to counteract and contain the spread of COVID-19 across Europe, the European Truck Racing Association (ETRA), in consultation with the FIA and the local race organiser have decided to postpone the 2020 FIA ETRC race in Misano, Italy.
With Italy being one of the hardest hit countries of the pandemic, their government has further extended restrictions which means it will no longer be possible for the FIA ETRC race in Misano to go ahead on the scheduled date of 23-24 May 2020.
The new date for the race in Italy has been set as 14/15 November 2020, subject to FIA confirmation.
Following the announcement of the postponement of the 24 Hours of Le Mans until September, the FIA ETRC race dates for Le Mans and Jarama (ESP) will have to be re-scheduled as well to accommodate the plans of the local race organisers.
The new date for the race in Jarama has been set as 26/27 September 2020, and the race at Le Mans will be held on 3/4 October 2020, subject to FIA confirmation.
Whilst there’s uncertainty about how the situation will develop over the next few weeks in light of the coronavirus outbreak, the promoter of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship stills plans to run all 8 scheduled races for this season.
“Our season comprises of 8 races and the way our calendar is structured, it allows us a greater flexibility compared to other sports properties and championships to reschedule races,” said Rolf Werner, Managing Director of ETRA. “Our objective is still to run all eight scheduled races.
The transportation industry has become a key industry during this pandemic, keeping the supplies of food and medical equipment flowing. A lot of our drivers and fans are truck drivers in their day-to-day job and once this crisis is overcome, we want to be able to put on a great season for them to celebrate all the road heroes out there and acknowledge the hard work they put in.”
