This weekend the T Sport Bernau team travelled to the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Italy for the opening round of the 2022 Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship.
The team arrived at the circuit with high hopes and anticipation ahead of the weekend, keen to see how Antonio’s pace would compare to the rest of the field after our latest phase of winter developments. The team were also excited to welcome guests from our partners Varta, PE and BPW into our brand-new hospitality area which we would be unveiling for the first time.
The weekends ‘on track’ action began on Saturday morning with the usual format of 2 practice sessions followed by qualifying, super pole and finally 2 races. Antonio got off to a flying start setting some very impressive times in both free practice sessions. At this stage it was difficult to accurately gauge our race pace compared to the other competitors. However, after a brilliant qualifying, with Antonio easily progressing through to the Superpole shootout, we found ourselves lining up on the second row of the grid, qualifying in a fantastic 3rd position. The first race of the season soon came around, however, due to a fellow competitor jumping the start behind Antonio and taking to the grass alongside as the lights went out, Antonio fell back a couple of places off the start. He fought an excellent race though and was able to make some fantastic overtaking manoeuvres. Eventually bringing the truck home in a very respectable 4th place – getting the 2022 campaign underway with some very valuable championship points in the bag.
The reverse grid format for the second race meant Antonio lined up in 5th position. After a better start and some more excellent racing throughout the entire race, he managed to make up places. Giving the team and supporters something to cheer for. He rounded off the first day of racing with our first race win since the creation of the current T Sport Bernau team! A fantastic achievement for the whole team and very well deserved – hard work really does pay off!
At the second day of the weekend, the team awoke with high hopes and a lot of enthusiasm, eager and excited to carry the momentum from the previous day and see what Antonio and the T Sport Bernau truck could achieve out on track. Once again Antonio got off to a great start showing some great pace in the mornings practice sessions. Qualifying soon came around with Antonio easily progressing through to the Superpole session, eventually securing 5th position on the grid for race 3 of the weekend. The sun was shining and by the time the racing action started, the temperature was soaring. Making the most of the warm and dry conditions, Antonio fought hard throughout the race. He managed to gain a position narrowly missing out on another podium finish as he crossed the line to take his second 4th place finish of the weekend – securing even more valuable championship points. Another reverse grid format saw Antonio line up in 5th position for the last race of the weekend. Antonio rose to the challenge, taking on the hot temperatures and – in the words of our data engineer, Justo – ‘fought like a tiger!’ Providing some fantastic racing action for his supporters and fans, Antonio once again made up places, exceeding all expectations and managing to finish the race in second place, another podium!
Antonio and the team are extremely happy with the pace of the truck. We feel we have an extremely competitive race truck for the 2022 campaign and are hopeful of many more championship points and podiums to come throughout the rest of the season.
This weekend’s guests were delighted to enjoy our new hospitality area and to get involved watching the engineers working hard to keep the race truck in top racing trim throughout the weekend.
The next ETRC round will see us visit the iconic Hungaroring near to Budapest, Hungary, in only 3 weeks. We are looking forward to once again welcome fans and guests at the paddock and hopefully provide some more racing action for everyone to enjoy, both at the circuit and at home via live stream.
Phantastischer Auftakt der Saison 2022 für T Sport Bernau
Am vergangenen Wochenende reiste das T Sport Bernau-Team für die Eröffnungsrunde der Goodyear FIA Truck Racing Europameisterschaft zum Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli nach Italien.
Das Team erreichte die Rennstrecke voller Hoffnungen und Vorfreude auf das bevorstehende Rennwochenende. Nach letzten Weiterentwicklungen am Renntruck erwartete man gespannt, wie sich Antonio im Vergleich zum Rest des Feldes schlagen würde. Mit großer Freude begrüßte das Team Gäste unserer Partner Varta, PE und BPW in unserem nagelneuen Bewirtungsbereich, den wir hier erstmalig vorstellten.
„Auf die Piste“ ging es dann erstmals am Samstagvormittag für die üblichen beiden freien Trainingseinheiten, das Zeittraining, das Superpole-Qualifying und natürlich die beiden Samstagsrennen. Antonio flog am Start sichtlich davon und erzielte beeindruckende Rundenzeiten in beiden freien Trainings. Hier war es noch schwer, seine Rennleistung realistisch mit den Wettbewerbern zu vergleichen. Nach einem hervorragenden Zeittraining schob sich Antonio wie selbstverständlich in die Endauswahl im Superpole und schließlich auf einen hervorragenden 3. Startplatz für das bevorstehende Rennen. Es dauerte nicht lange, da stand auch schon das erste Rennen der Saison an. Wegen des Frühstarts eines anderen Teilnehmers hinter Antonio und das damit verbundenen Abkommens auf den Rasen als die Lichter ausgingen, fiel Antonio zunächst einige Plätze zurück. Im weiteren Verlauf des Rennens kämpfte er sich aber mit phantastischen Überholmanövern hervorragend durch und brachte seinen Truck schließlich auf einem respektablen 4. Platz über die Ziellinie; ein großartiger Saisonauftakt, der Antonio und dem Team sogleich die ersten wichtigen Punkte für die Meisterschaft einbrachte.
Wegen der Umkehrregelung ging er das zweite Rennen vom 5. Startplatz aus an. Nach einem nun besseren Start und mit noch besserer Leistung gelang es Antonio weitere Plätze gutzumachen. Team und Fans machten Freudensprünge, als er den ersten Renntag der Saison mit unserem ersten Sieg seit der Gründung des aktuellen T Sport Bernau Teams abrundete. Ein großartiger Ausgang für das gesamte Team und ein wohlverdientes Ergebnis – die viele harte Arbeit macht sich ganz klar bezahlt!
Am zweiten Renntag erwachte das Team voller Hoffnungen und hoch motiviert. Alle waren gespannt und gewillt, den Schwung vom Vortag mitzunehmen und zu sehen, wie sich Antonio und der Truck des T Sport Bernau auf der Rennstrecke schlagen würden. Bereits bei den freien Trainings am Morgen lieferte Antonio erneut großartige Ergebnisse. Erneut schoss er seinen Truck durch das Zeittraining direkt ins Superpole-Qualifying und auf den 5. Startplatz für das 3. Rennen dieses Jahres in Misano. Die Sonne schien und brannte mit rasant steigenden Temperaturen auf die Rennstrecke ein, als es zur Startaufstellung auf die Piste ging. Antonio nutzte das warme, trockene Wetter und kämpfte hart. Es gelang ihm, einen Platz gutzumachen. Als sein Truck als 4. über die Ziellinie schoss, verpasste er das Podium nur ganz knapp und holte damit erneut wichtige Punkte für die Meisterschaft. Durch die Umkehrregelung bedeutete das erneut den 5. Startplatz für das letzte Rennen am Wochenende. Antonio zögerte nicht und stellte unter Beweis, dass er der Herausforderung gewachsen war. Er trotzte dem heißen Wetter und kämpfte, wie es unser Dateningenieur Justo nannte, „wie ein Tiger!“ Mit seiner großartigen Leistung auf der Strecke begeisterte er Fans und Unterstützer, schob sich erneut einige Plätze nach vorne und beendete das Rennen schließlich entgegen aller Erwartungen auf Platz 2.
Antonio und das Team sind mit den erzielten Ergebnissen und der Leistung von Fahrer und Truck überaus zufrieden. Es hat sich gezeigt, dass wir für die Truck Racing Europameisterschaft 2022 auf einen extrem wettbewerbsfähigen Renntruck setzen können und uns zuversichtlich auf viele weitere Wertungspunkte und Podiumsplätze im Laufe der Saison freuen können.
Die Gäste, die uns an diesem Wochenende begleitet haben, waren von unserem neuen Cateringbereich begeistert und genossen es, unseren Ingenieuren, die alles dafür taten, den Renntruck das gesamte Wochenende über top in Schuss zu halten, bei ihrer harten Arbeit zuzusehen.
Der nächste Lauf der diesjährigen ETRC findet bereits in 3 Wochen am legendären Hungaroring unweit der ungarischen Hauptstadt Budapest statt. Wir freuen uns auch dort wieder zahlreiche Fans und Gäste im Fahrerlager begrüßen zu dürfen und auf weitere spannende Action auf der Rennstrecke für alle, die unsere Rennen vor Ort oder zu Hause über den Livestream verfolgen.
